Samuel Haycraft of Elizabethtown, Hardin County, Ky. was appointed clerk of both circuit and county courts in 1816. He held that position until 1851, when he began the practice of law in Elizabethtown, Ky. In 1855, he was elected as clerk of the circuit court and served until he became a state senator from 1858 until 1862. Joseph Holt, 1807-94, American public official, judge advocate general of the U.S. army (1862-75). A native of Kentucky, he became a well-known lawyer and prominent Democratic politician.
